Intusoft Launches "ICAP/4 Consumer" SPICE Simulator through Fry's Electronics

Gardena, CA (February 15, 2005) -- Intusoft announced today its new "ICAP/4 Consumer" analog, mixed-signal and mixed systems SPICE simulator for the "consumer" end-user market. ICAP/4 Consumer is now distributed through all Fry's Electronics retail stores, and is also orderable from Intusoft.

ICAP/4 Consumer features the full power of Intusoft's IsSpice4 4th-generation SPICE kernel, combined with the "SpiceNet" schematic entry system. "Consumer" provides more than 3,000 component simulation models for creating designs up to around 100 parts, depending on component type.

According to Fry's Electronics corporate headquarters in San Jose, California, there has never been a computer-aided application for electronic design distributed through the retailing channel. "We'll see where Intusoft's product takes us since 70% of our customers are from the technological community."

ICAP/4 Consumer provides a means for any electronic designer or hobbyist to use SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) technology in an easy-to-use Windows environment. Circuits are easily created using Consumer's menu pull-downs, dialog boxes and a parts browser to bring off-the-shelf components to view for wiring. The user point-and-clicks to wire parts together, while other dialogs are used to set up a design simulation. Once the computer simulates circuit operation, the user can point-and-click anywhere on the schematic to observe signal waveforms in Consumer's "IntuScope" waveform viewing tool. Repetitive debug of the design, i.e., changing part values or circuit connections, and viewing new or previous signals is fast. There's even a way to quickly sweep component values or temperature through a prescribed range, including temperature of the entire design, then view a family of corresponding waveforms at desired points in the circuitry. When the user is ultimately satisfied with the design's performance, s/he is ready to make an actual prototype board using real parts.

ICAP/4 Consumer saves the time and expense of having to purchase parts up front, wait on part lead-time, deal with messy wiring prone to error, and invest in costly equipment for stimulating the design and measuring signals. The software targeted for hobbyists, engineers, students, electronics instructors, and technicians.

According to Tim Ghazaleh, Intusoft's marketing director, "ICAP/4 Consumer not only provides a cost-effective solution for retail end users, but an economical way for technologists to take advantage of powerful SPICE technology at a rock bottom price."

The product is full-featured and retails for $249 through all 28 Fry's Electronics outlets, including their distribution site (www.outpost.com ) . Consumer includes a software CD, instruction manual, in-application help, new-user's guide for quick operation with the software, product brochure, and net-based registration. Platform support includes Windows 98se/ME/NT4/2000/XP. The product is also orderable through Intusoft (http://www.intusoft.com/products/ICAP4Consumer.htm ). Two options include electronic download only, or the addition of a product box and manual that are shipped. Pricing differs between the two ordering methods.
